The book is as always when Clive is writing very good and exciting.
I was very disappointed in this latest adventure of the Fargos. I have read each and every book in the series. The only half-way exciting part was the last few pages. It started off well but disgenerated into some boring rhetoric. It did not capture the adventures of the other Fargo novels. I don't know how much if this book was written by Mr. Cussler, but I think not much. I will be asking Amazon for a refund tomorrow. Don't waste your time or money on this bad novel
One thing I really love in a novel is when it awakens memories of past adventures in my life. And, this one did from the beginning with the archaeological dig. (I spent over 10 years in Spain while in the US Navy and on my free weekends, went to the Roman ruins near Sevilla, Italica, and also the Acinipo near Ronda. There were many more but those two I fell in love with early...)This is a real page-turner, for sure. The mystery surrounding the curse coupled with multiple adventures for Sam and Remi Fargo take the reader on a real gallop in Nigeria...Wow, is an under statement!The words 'Saturn holds the wheels' was the beginning of the words in the curse. Will the curse finally be broken?The characters are well-defined and the addition of Nasha and Amal both contributed to the plot.. Lots of action within these pages coupled with twists and turns make this an exciting novel.In addition, I loved the African proverbs at the beginning of each chapter.. One of my favorites was 'Patience can cook a stone.' The school for the girls also presented the reader with a backdrop for more intense excitement and mayhem.One thing that made me laugh was Lazlo's statement about voting....He said 'Always two to one. Why do we bother to vote?'Add the crisp clear dialogue and it makes this a 5 star read for me. Loved the characters, the plot and the interaction between the Sam and Remi Fargo and the rest of their team.Most highly recommended.
I LOVE adventure stories, fact-based OR fiction. I also enjoy history, so when you have an adventure story with ties to ancient and not-so-ancient history, I am going to enjoy it. Review readers who are less enthralled with adventure novels, probably, will want to subtract one star from my rating, in order to make an informed purchase.The great challenge in any series, especially one written in collaboration with other authors is to keep the story fresh, while not deviating too far afield from the franchise. The question is, did Cussler and his team manage to accomplish this difficult task?For me, they succeeded. I enjoyed traveling back and forth in time. Especially intrigued by the history gleaned regarding the country in which I resided for over 15 years of my adult life.BLUSH FACTOR: Suitable for all ages.WRITING & EDITING: The mechanics of the writing and editing are thoroughly professional.BOTTOM LINEEspecially appreciate that there is no cliff hanger.Four stars out of five.
I really enjoyed the first several books in this series, and was looking forward to this one. However, it was quite lacking. Very disjointed, poor character development, basically just sloppy writing. This was more about getting a book to the publisher than enhancing a series.80% of the book was a decent social justice story. However, if you want to develop a social justice series, do that rather than wasting the content and very lightly touching on the historical and archeological aspects that originally made the Fargo series. I sincerely hope the next book gets back to what made this series great. If you are a fan of (the original) Sam and Remi Fargo, you will be disappointed in this book.
Reading this book was nothing short of frustrating! The characters did stupid/foolish things (i.e. Refusing to see the obvious) and continuing on their foolish course. It was a book that was a waste of good time. The plot was weak and the characters even more weak. Annoying read!!
